Toying with the idea of buying a D Angelico : New Yorker, there are a few around but none local, so I can play it and see if it`s what I expected....

Not sure if there is a question here, but given the purchase price of these guitars it probably makes sense to throw in airfare as a hedge, ideally to a city where you can hear several. I’ve played quite a few over the years and took two things away from the experience: 1) the best D’Angelicos are truly wonderful instruments, but there is a lot of variation guitar to guitar; and 2) set-up is absolutely key to knowing what the guitar can do, I would say even more so than with flat-tops.
