In 98 I sat on the pedestal wall surrounding Lady Liberty, with my Pop and my 4 Y/O son sitting between us, posing for a pic my wife snapped of us with the twin towers in the background. On Liberty's face is an expression of conviction that was imprinted in my memory that day. My Pop, born in 1923, was raised in Brooklyn and was giving us a tour of his childhood memories.

The photo was taken in the early 1880ís, so, yeah, it predated Elvis by just a little bit!

Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that Elvis looked like the statue of Liberty? Or was Elvis a lot older than they let on?

If the face was modelled on the sculptor's mother, is it possible Elvis was a descendant? - Perhaps he was French after all, esprits suspicieux at work.

My mother - who was not an Elvis fan in any way, shape or form - always used to say that he was classically handsome, with a face like a Greek statue. Perhaps that assessment of what she considered to be his classical facial structure is what makes his face echo that of the Statue of Liberty.

Because, obviously, it couldn’t be the other way around.
