I assume bracing will be typical of McKnight guitars.

The Koa looks fantastic. You mentioned maybe using Mad Rose for the fretboard and binding. I've always let my builders make the aesthetic choices for me; not my talent; but I would suggest to let the Koa make the statement and make sure the binding/fretboard color won't clash or figure be too much. Also, Mad Rose for a fretboard has quite an open grain; not necessarily bad quite different than ebony.
We haven't talked about the soundhole yet.....that's Lance's duty I believe. I guess we should have a discussion about that. The Madagascar was just the binding, not the actual fingerboard.

As far as shipping Cotten, it's not too far between Brock, Tim and Mary and Lance. Getting it to Rob in British Columbia and back is going to be the "test".

I'd vote for Fedex, not UPS, but we'll see.

that's funny....we had jokingly called it McKragOlingAgon and Rob was trying to figure out how he was going to fit that on the headstock!

I would imagine it will be plain.....

I'm not suppose to tell secrets, but I can tell you there are different bracing patterns for different guitars.

I'll vote for it being very similar to the Osage Highlander (which to my ear is very near perfection!!!)

Aw, yeah. No doubt. Your osage guitar has the 1959 spruce on it.

Can someone explain the benefits of a double-sided body? I have an idea, but I'd rather trust a luthier's experience. Tonal differences?

There is no tonal difference because the sides are pretty inert as far as producing any tone IMO, unless someone has some scientific evidence to dissuade me? The benefits are purely structural in that they (the doubles sides) are immovable during humidity changes, virtually crack proof if abused and EXTREMELY stiff and stable to support an active back and responsive sound board.

It's a nice lookin' piece of wood. I'm anxious to see how it looks as a whole instrument down the road.

I think the stiffer rims minimize the sides absorbing some of the vibrational energy from the top and back, but this is hotly debated in the luthier world. Some say yes, others say no.

I have found that it is best to find something that works for you and stick with it.

I have an update.....Brock has delivered the back and sides to Tim and Mary and the wood is acclimating in Tim's wood room (which is incredible, by the way!) Lance is going to get the top to them in the near future and the project should be moving forward before too long!

Mary sent me some new pics tonight......of Tim sanding and tapping the back of the guitar. Here's one of the back after it's been sanded down a bit...

and my personal favorite....the one of Tim telling Mary it's time to leave the shop for the night......LOL
