They had to settle the men's final with a tie break - otherwise Wills and Kate would never have got home to relieve the babysitter.

I have always wondered about the scoring system in tennis and yesterday proved it can be unfair. Fed won 36 games whilst Djok won 32. Fed loses.

Spare a thought for New Zealand in the cricket World Cup final.

- New Zealand 8 for 241.
- England All Out for 241.

England wins.

Cricket in coloured kit just isn't Tennis.

(Not sure if that makes sense outside UK)

I disagree, IMO, the scoring system is ideally suited to show who can handle the pressure points. Fed had two match points at 15 - 40 on his own serve at 8-7 and two break points at 11-11. He couldn't take either.

The Joker deserved the win. He handled the pressure better and dominated the tie break.

I'm a casual watcher and typically only tune in when the semi-finals start.

I enjoyed the heck out of that match!

Federer could have farted and the Wimbledon crowd would have applauded for him.

I watched both finals this weekend. Halep dominated the women's final, and I'm very happy for her victory. And that men's final was one for the ages... Federer seemed to have more momentum, but as others mentioned, Djokovic came up big, when it counted. I really enjoyed watching their match.

It's like this in any sport. In a 7 game series in basketball, one time might get blown out for 3 games and win 4 close games. The total score might be way in favor for the team that loses...

There are a lot of sports like this.

You are both correct of course, everyone knows the rules before they start (or I suppose you could say 'everyone knows the score'). Perhaps I should have said strange scoring instead of unfair.

robj144 - the basketball reference is way over my head but I think I can imagine several F1 scenarios that fit with what you are saying.

Default Wimbledon (Tennis) Finalists pick?

When Roger vs Novak went into tie-break at 12:12 in the 5th set. I had a feeling Novak would win. It played into both their minds. Fed had lost 2 tie-breaks earlier n Novak had won the 2 earlier tie-breaks...Tennis is both a battle of skills and how strong the mind (the will to win) is. Roger probably lost because he had a feeling he was going to lose in the third tie-break.

Credit should be given to Novak as he had to battle Roger plus the majority of the Wimbledon crowd. His will to win is outstanding.

The younger generation of tennis pros like D. Thiem and A. Zverev can learn mental toughness (the will to win) from Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. Their first Grand Slam title should be coming pretty soon...or maybe after one or two of the top three retires.

The above is just my personal opinion, yours may defer...

Yep. Roger had the win on his racquet but couldn't get it done. Novak played the critical points better and deserved the win. Such is the nature of tennis scoring. Nonetheless, some of the shot-making was breath-taking. The match represented tennis at the absolute highest level of the sport.
