Bach Trios by Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thile, and Edgar Meyer.

Each a wonderful musician in their own right, and together this just works so well. The interplay between the lines written by Mr Bach is clear as day and repays repeated listening.

I almost didn’t get it because I’ve got a lot of Bach already and there’s only so much mandolin playing I can remain enthusiastic about. (It’s like harpsichord, great in small doses but when played solo the lack of sustain and sameness of tone might be a bit monotonous).

If you think you don’t like classical music, you can buy it as “another mandolin record from Chris Thile”. Listen to his playing the first time through, and afterwards you might realise how often your ears have followed the cello or the bass instead. Wonderful...

Jethro Tull “Songs from the Wood” (1977) and “Heavy Horses” (1978), two albums on vinyl both 40th anniversary editions with full notes remastered by Steven Wilson.

Thanks Bob Womack for the heads up!

These days I gravitate towards Sarah Jarosz or Richard Shindell for the mellower, mainly acoustic side of music. For short, heavier outbursts, I’ll go to Porcupine Tree, KMFDM or Rammstein.

Jeff Scott, that's a classic. Definitely on my all-time top-10 list.

Myself, I've been listening to Jason Isbell's "Something More Than Free." Great writing, great band. I like his voice too.

Well, I had been listening to an Emmy Lou Harris mix tape that I bought on the last day of an estate sale when it was "$1 per sack-full", but in the middle of the CD this morning, it changed to Barbara Streisand.
