I've been following this thread for a long time so I guess it's time to support it with 5-star vote!

Count me in for five stars. This was definitely my favorite build thread from the last year!

Of course any thread that starts like this:

and ends like this:

is alright by me!

That wedged Mod-D is really mouth watering but I have to say that the Somogyi really hits all the right aesthetic notes for me. Of course the fact that I've just finished reading one of his books may have influenced me just a little. But I do love the segmented rosette.

Congratulations!

eric was kind enough to let me try out this guitar for a few days and it is truly an amazing sounding instrument; it sounds like brazilian that has been around for a lot longer than it has. For a new guitar, it has a big open sound that my studio mics could barely capture.
There's a lot going on here; the subtleties, the overtones from just one note, the fat bass sound that pounds your chest and and that delicious mid range "grind," for lack of a better word, comparable to a Yamaha grand piano, that is the heart of a great guitar.
I hear sounds coming out of this I haven't heard from anything I've played before. It took whatever I could throw at it.
I can't even imagine what its going to sound like in five or ten years. Its so full of life now that when it ages it could turn into such a tone monster that it will scare the crap out of all the guitars in your collection.
I've played a few guitars from eric's collection and quickly discovered he has the ears that can ferret out the real gems. He's going to have to search far and wide to top this one!

Jeff, thanks for the review and thanks for the great recordings of the Kostal!

Jeff really is an awesome player and has had some pretty awesome guitars including a Ryan. He did me the favor of making some recordings of the guitar here. Great playing!

Sonds great Eric, as far as can be judged from soundclips etc. As you say, great playing, both you and your friend.

My own Kostal is underway, I think, so in a few months time I hope to have a first-hand experience of what makes Jason's guitars so special; I've played a few (and listened to your vids etc), but nothing beats having the thing at home for a while.

cheers,
Steve

Steve, you are in for a treat! You are absolutely right in saying nothing beats it having it at home. seeing and hearing online is much different than feeling it in your hands and body. Can't wait to see yours! any pics?

At 345 posts, this great thread is well past the 300-post point where our software begins to be quirky, and there's nothing worse than quirky software! So with respect and thanks to all, I am closing this thread. If you would like to continue talking about it, feel free to begin a Part 2.
