If I could jam with anyone living or dead.
It would be the other 3 band members I played with for 22 years. Was talking with my drummer of 40 years about gigging in the past and present. Gigging, for both of us had become more a chore than a pleasure. I used to look forward to heading out on Fridays after work. Setting up the band. Playing all night. Breaking down, load out, doing it again on Saturday. The rehearsals throughout the week then doing it again next Friday and Saturday. I told him that I could really care less anymore. The guys that made it all worth while are gone. But if the original 4 members could be assembled. I'd be the first one there to load up. Sorry, I guess I had already answered this. I do really miss those guys. |

First one comes to mind is Jimmy Page. Any and/or all of Rush. There are plenty I'd like to just sit and talk to.

Hank Williams Sr would probably be a fun night.
Jr would be a night you probably don't remember. |

Of all the great players I can think of only one jumped out when I read the question. Steve, aka The Hippy, is who I'd love to jam with one more time. Steve sold me my first guitar and patiently taught me to play. We jammed nightly for about 5 years and played weddings and some bar gigs.
I moved too far away to play together and sadly he passed away before I got back to the old neighborhood. I'd love to jam with him one more time and thank him for the lifetime gift he gave me 50 years ago.

For me, it would be my Granny. She played guitar a lot when she was younger (1920's/30's), and she and her cousins were picked up by a talent scout who wanted them to record in Nashville, but their parents would not allow it.
By the time I was born (1982) she didn't play any longer and didn't have a playable guitar. I would LOVE to sit down with a younger version of my Granny and play some old hymns/folk songs together. I did discover her old guitar and had it restored (see my sig), but it sure would be nice to see her with it. |

Tough call, but I’d say Rick Danko. Can play guitar, bass, or fiddle, great harmony singer, legendarily easy to get along with.

This all assumes I'd have the cajones (because I don't have the chops) to hang with these guys. It also assumes they'd be willing to lower their standards a bit to jam with me.
Jaco, Jeff Beck, Steve Gadd, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Donald Fagan, Pasty Cline, Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, Julian Lage, Etta James, Duane Allman, Michael Brecker, Jerry Douglas, Michael Hedges, Bill Evans, Tom Bukovak, Paul McCartney, Chris Thile, Tommy Emmanuel, Sonny Landreth. Not all at once necessarily, but wouldn't that be interesting! And this is just today's list. Tomorrow's would be different. |

I wouldn't jam.
I would take a $5 guitar lesson from Rev. Gary Davis. Just like Jorma and Stefan Grossman and Roy Bookbinder and Ernie Hawkins and all those other guys did. |

I would’ve loved to play with Doc Watson. My other choice would be my dad after he got out of GIT. By the time I could really jam he had suffered nerve damage from botched back surgery. He still plays but just singer songwriter stuff. He could really play and I’m lucky that he kept a lot of master recordings from gigs and festivals.

George Harrison.
But since that ain’t gonna happen I’ll settle for the time GE Smith accompanied myself and my buddy who plays bass on an original of ours at Fur Peace Ranch. Little did I know a short time later he would be musical director for Roger Waters’ The Wall tour (considering David Gilmour was/is a huge influence on how I learned to play leads on electric). So I’ll go with that. In a fantasy world, Joni Mitchell. Or Jimmy Buffett because he has so much New Orleans jazz in his blood.

as far as Jam...
my late brother in Law Dale the late great Jeff Healey Segovia ( doesn't qualify as a jam though does it?) Living would be #1 of course: Gordon Lightfoot ( the poet that sings) Richard Smith or Tommy Emmanuel
