Default Just Ordered My LMI Kit!!!

Hey guys, So me and my dad decided we wanted to build an acoustic guitar, so we did some searching and settled on a kit from LMI. Here are some of the woods we used:

BearClaw Spruce Top
Cocobola Sides and Back
Mahogany Neck
Curly Maple Binding
Koa Wood Rosett
Rosewood Finger Board
Cocobola Bridge

Should be a beautiful guitar, what do you guys think?

Ill post pictures of the build once it gets here and all that fun stuff, should be around spring break when the build begins

TreDildy: If it's any help there is a Kit Guitars Forum. You may know about it already. Good luck on the adventure.

Sounds like a winner What size/shape are you doing? Dreadnought?

Careful with that cocobolo dust! I'm not allergic to it (yet), but I can definitely feel the harshness of it if I get it on my skin. Any significant sanding/scraping (like smoothing the sides after you get the box closed up, or shaping of the bridge), do outdoors with a fan next to you if possible (assuming you don't have a fancy dust collection setup)

Cocobolo certainly idea an ambitious choice for a first guitar build, but I'm sure you and your dad willison do fine. What body style are you building? Is it a serviced LMI kit with the tonewoods pre-thicknessed and the.sides prebent?

Im building a dreadnaught style guitar, it is a serviced kit because we don't have the right stuff to do the shaping and all that jazz, so yeah, can't wait for it to get here!

Sounds good. All this talk of cocobolo dust has me paranoid but I love the look of the stuff; all red and stripy. Let us know how it all comes together.

Cocobolo dust is nasty business. I have an allergy to it, very unpleasant to say the least.

Sounds like a great project. Here's a tip for gluing up cocobola if it's oily, wipe down the the gluing surfaces of the cocobola with acetone just before gluing & allow to dry. Acetone only takes seconds to dry & wil remove some of the surface oils allowing for better glue adhesion. Best of luck & have fun.

Ed
