A couch parlor would round it out.

PRS P20E or Martin 00

Players grade 00 12-fret Martin from the golden era, the ones that have been played to hell usually sound the best(I should know, I've got one)

For something from a real one-man (well, two-man now) shop, I can't imagine a better build than a Goodall, in any body style. Maybe a 12-fret short scale 000? Elegant, beautiful, and sustain that lasts all day.

Here's my suggestion - go to the Cedar Rock studios YouTube channel and watch a bunch of the world-class demos of "high-end" instruments to form an initial opinion, then go out and play as many of your top picks as possible. Drive 100 miles if necessary.

Okay, after that - call James Goodall!

That's a great recommendation. My Yamaha 12 string was the only acoustic I earned during my first 10 years of playing.

My last two "Diversifications" were a PRS Hollowbody SE II Piezo and an Eastman MD615 Mandolin.

As far as acoustics go, I'd say something like a Martin 00-17, small body all mahogany. Want to spend more? There is a very nice S35 all Mahogany Lowden in the classifieds.

Get something hand made from Canada, in Saskatchewan to be specific. Peter Sawchyn makes some nice guitars, this one is a 0 sized 12 fret he just made that I'm drooling after.

Maybe something in the Martin 15 all hog series, a Gibson J-45, an Avalon/Lowden? Furch or Pellerin (a sponsor here)? There's so much out there. I would spend hours on Dream Guitar and Brickhouse's websites drooling over guitars.

All three were bought because they have a sound I like, and which fulfils a purpose within the music I play - nothing to do with ‘bragging’.
A mid-range Taylor? So $3500? What Lowden did you buy (recently) under $3500?

By the way, no offense to your Lowdens. I simply haven't seen one in great condition for less than $5 - 6K. I do believe in Goodall - not apologizing for that, and can truly say he's the smallest shop in the boutique sphere...at least for the last 13 years he has been.

It all depends on how much of a difference you are seeking.

A SCGC 000 would be a nice addition, and you might enjoy the short scale (especially if you are a fingerpicker).

A Collings C10-35 is smaller, and “Gibson-ish”, while still offering the Collings consistency and playability…but some would urge you to buy a Gibson rather than exploring a Gibsonish sound made by another manufacturer.

A twelve string is great, though I think it is important to recognize that developing a repertoire that truly suits a 12 is not entirely straightforward, and can take some time (though many are content to simply strum through most any song in a 12 string, and never give it much thought).

While 00’s can be great, their “focused”, “balanced” sound is not for everyone.

A jumbo can be great. I have a Webber small jumbo with walnut back and sides that I really enjoy, and which differs from the rosewood sound that I tend to prefer.

Enjoy your search!

A Mod has removed the offensive comment which you made, to the effect that people only buy Lowdens and Froggies in order to brag about how much their guitars cost.

I note that you’re new here - you might like to consider that brand-bashing is contrary to forum rules, and that you’re unlikely to make many friends if you go around bashing other members’ choices of instrument.

I regard this conversation as closed.

Have a nice day.

Definitely something small - but I’m biased as most of mine are 000/OM. I would recommend looking at a small-body in a tonewood you’ve not considered yet - perhaps maple? My latest is a maple L-00 type and it offers something very different from my ebony and rosewood backed guitars.
