Default DI with effects loop?

Hi all.

Is there a DI other than the Fire Eye or the Baggs PADI that offers an effects loop? I have one Fire Eye on my pedalboard, and I'd like to add another DI to deal with impedance issues on my mandolin but I don't have space to give up on the board for another Fire Eye. Is there anything else like the Dee Eye?

I'm not sure what you're asking. Do you need something smaller than the Red Eye, but still with an FX loop because you can't fit two Red Eye's on your pedal board?

Could you fit a Red Eye twin and plug both instruments into that?

The new Fishman Platinum has one, too.
Or you could track down an old Raven preamp; they had a great buffered fx loop.

Thanks, Larry. Space is indeed an issue. The Twin won't work because I'd need two fx loops on it.

I'm going to assume you need a second DI because you want to plug two instruments into your board - everyone knows a Redeye is the perfect preamp for all piezo equipped stringed instruments. I use a Morley A-B-C pedal as the thing in my chain. The output goes into my Redeye. I use a tuner pedal as the first pedal in the effects loop as otherwise there is an audible "pop" when changing instruments with a the A-B-C pedal. Of course the Morley is a big pedal....

So this means you need either a DI box smaller than a RedEye but with an effects loop for your mando or a two channel unit that's both smaller than two RedEyes and has two effects loops.

I think that means you need a bigger pedalboard--one that will fit the two RedEyes and all the other pedals!

Either that or get a RedEye twin and use the same effects loop for both, but only activating the pedals you need for one or the other when you switch. A few more foot taps, perhaps, but cheaper than a bigger board. The only other way I can think of doing this would be to add a switch to allow you to switch between the two loops, but that requires real estate, too.

What do you need to put in the two effects loops?
