Changing out bridge tuners on Martin 000jr
I have a Martin Shawn Mendes for a while now and I'm thinking of switching out the tuners for a vintage look. The current tuners are Martin Branded and I believe are Gotohs. They have a screw at the bottom.
After much contemplating, I've found these as a good option as the screw seems to be in the same place as the current Martin Branded Gotohs. Grover 18:1 Sta-Tite 3+3 Tuning Machines for Solid Peghead, Nickel Do u think they can fit the headstock for a direct replacement? A bonus that they are very affordable direct from Amazon.

Check your tuning post length, and length to the hole. As I remember it, my original Djr had a thinner headstock and the tuner posts were shorter than standard tuners.
The tuners on the lower priced Martins are some of the nicest working tuners I've used. I'd stick with what you have. |

Thank you, so it's the 8mm length is it?

Remove one of your current tuners and you can measure and compare the dimensions to the drawing you posted. If they match you are home free.

Those are definitely not a direct replacement... I mean, the stock tuners have a single screw and the replacements have two. At the very least, you'd have to drill a new hole.

You're going to have to drill two new holes and check to see if the new tuners will cover up the original hole or not, but more importantly, why Grover? They are just not in the same league as Gotoh or even the hugely overrated Waverly's, and those Sta-Tite's have a ton of backlash. The first thing I did with my Gibson Southern Jumbo when I bought it four and a half years ago was to swap out the Grover's it came with for the new 21:1 Waverly's, which included having to plug the holes with tiny mahogany toothpicks I made in my electric drill and use the Stew-Mac jig to drill new, accurately placed mounting holes.

A single screw on the back tells me the originals are nutted to the headstock on the front side which indicates a much larger post bore than the bushings of the replacement set you are considering. You will need a set of reducer bushings (large OD to fit the headstock bore, small ID to fit the post of the new set. You may well be left with 'raccoon eyes' on the headstock - the imprint of the large diameter washer under the nut. Might be an issue for you, might not.
Good luck!

They are not a direct replacement and are a step down quality wise from the tuners you currently have.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I will be reconsidering replacement due to a step down in quality, notwithstanding the complexities of changing it.
