COVID-19 CASES INCREASING
Since Friday the number of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. has doubled. Today our numbers increased by two-fold more than Italys. Hopefully our death rate won't increase and other's have. We increased (so far) more than 9200 today. Our total cases increased almost 22% today alone. Please listen to the U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Fauci - and other experts - and stay home. Be careful.

This is playing out just like the experts said it would. They know whereof they speak. Hopefully, we can minimize the impact.

Exactly and it's what I've been saying here for at least a week. But, there is still so many who think it's not a big deal and the world governments are overreacting. SMH...

Of course they are increasing. The more you test the more positives come back. And they will continue to go up over the course of the next couple of weeks. Because we are testing more. The data point to pay attention to is the morbidity/mortality rate as a percentage of positive tests.
It still appears that greater than 98% of the people infected have minimal /minor symptoms Just to be clear I am not taking this lightly. Just trying to be objective

It is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
I'm not trying to be negative but there will be a new normal after this pandemic, for a very long time. Structural changes to our economies, how we behave and meet, etc. Be safe everyone! |

And as to people walking around in the parks - as long as they're keeping reasonably distant (at least one metre, says the WHO), they're obeying the rules. The virus isn't spread just by being in the vicinity of other human beings in the fresh air and sunshine.

The US has 5.5 times as many people as Italy so comparing raw numbers of anything (instead of percentages or per-capita) is misleading.

I'm in NY a little outside of Manhattan - I would say since the restrictions its being very quiet in my neighborhood, it should have been like this weeks ago IMHO.
It's probably as strict as you can get without having military support, police are going to be out trying to curtail this socializing for now.

Hmmmmmm.....
Very disturbing..... most people are "social distancing" to a degree. One group is not=teenagers. Saw how they are disregarding all of the distancing rules yesterday in our local parks. I fear this will bring the virus cases to a head, quickly!

The current rate iof increase of cases in the US have a steeper curve than that of any country so far - including that of China, Italy and Spain. The risk to most people may be that they get a cold or a flu that puts them in bed for a few days but for a minority it has caused severe pneumonia effects that require intensive care. It is important to realise that while Italy had slightly more older people, Italy has twice as many ICU beds as the UK has despite having about the same population size - and this crisis has overloaded their medical system to the extent that doctors are deciding who lives and who dies.
So we need to look at his not so much as how much risk u personally are under- especially if you are still young and have no underlying medical condition - but the effect on the whole societal resources as a whole and the minority who will pay the price. Any social distancing and lockdown needs us all globally to work together to make it work - so we all need to stop going out to enjoy the sunshine and to instead stay at home to beat covid19 and know how serious this is and that selfishness by us has a tangible cost in human lives.
