That's really excellent, Paul. Where, exactly, were you standing when you took that one?

I see Pike's Peak frequently, but don't think I've seen it from that perspective.

Thank you both.

Ken, this is looking northeast from a few miles south of Westcliffe with a long lens. We're about 70 miles from Pikes Peak and have never seen it as clear as it was yesterday.

What a glorious view!

If I were you, I'd want that on a wall somewhere prominent.

Default Virginia Wildflowers, continued...

Thought I would add on to dreamincolor's previous post #89 with more Virginia wildflowers...

Showy Orchis - a beautiful pink-purple and white orchid of deciduous woodlands in the eastern United States.

Fire Pink

Coltsfoot - The name refers to the resemblance of the leaf to a colt's foot. A non-native plant which bears small, bright yellow flowers in early spring. Its dandelion-like flowers appear before the foliage.

Red, Pink and White Trillium

Not much going on outside - we're in that dull period between snow cover and everything turning green. But, inside, our orchid is expecting

Neon H&C Coffee sign - Roanoke, VA

Roaring Run Furnace near Eagle Rock, VA

Typical of the scores of iron furnaces that were sprinkled through the hills and mountains of western Virginia is Roaring Run Furnace, a single-stack, hot-blast charcoal furnace, built of large squared stones. It was constructed in 1832, rebuilt in 1845, and rebuilt again early in the Civil War. Most of the pig iron produced in its last years was shipped to Richmond for use by the Tredegar Iron Works in manufacturing arms. The furnace was abandon after the war, and the property was later incorporated into what is now the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.

Another excellent shot, Mr. Paul.

You must have a really tall tripod!
