Default Caldwell Build - African Blackwood/German

This one is basically a 12 fret 000 with a few modifications. The body is 3/8" deeper than standard, with a 25.4" scale length. Koa trim, "Bird's Beak" neck joint and I'm using some of Keith Robson's tuners in gold with black buttons. I think the appointments have come together very nicely. I should be stringing it up in a week or two.

The fingerboard inlay was done by Craig Lavin. He did a fantastic job.
Here are a few build photos and some of the almost completed guitar.

Mmmm, very tasty - the potential of the model, materials and your skill make for an exquisite instrument. Love your work on the headstock joint. I may get round to trying one of those - some day.
Any chance of seeing how you braced it Jimmy ?.
What do you feel the added 3/8" will give it ?
OT, I went to school in Galloway with a lad from Cauld Hame, which was beside the Cauld Well.

Jimmy - great looking guitar!!! Do the fretboard inlays mean anything? It looks like a ribbon, like the Breast Cancer ribbon or the Support our Troops ribbon.

Geordie,

Here's a shot of the bracing. I've found that the extra depth heightens bass response and adds a little volume. There is a point of diminishing returns and for this body size I've found that 4-1/2" is pretty much optimal.

Dru,

Very good eye. My client is a cancer survivor and the inlay celebrates his recovery.

Thanks to all for the comments.

Wow, great looking instrument. Should be a superb wood combination as well.

Can't wait to see this guitar with the finish on it. I have a build commissioned in similar woods and think the contrast between sides and front is going to look stellar!

That really helps personalize a guitar and makes it special. I think that's fantastic.

This one has been done for awhile, but I'm still waiting on the case from Ameritage before sending it off. I've enjoyed having it around and have had a chance to "put it through it paces' and really dial in the action. The ABW/German Spruce is a great combination and this is a really rich sounding guitar. My first experience with Keith Robson's tuners and they're really nice and go perfectly with aesthetics of this build.

This one has a catalyzed poly finish on the body and an oil finish on the neck. Thanks for looking.
