I'm excited to see that sass come to life too. That being said, Id imagine that the smell has you even more excited to finish it.

Thanks for posting the pics. I suppose the finish is key. Glossy binding on satin everywhere else would be weird, but the satin finish on the dread with the maple binding actually looks killer. You're the man Ed!

I tried to find a pic of the walnut OM with flamed maple bindings that The Seattle Guitar Store just took delivery of, but I couldn't dig it up. I know there was a pic on their Facebook page but I couldn't find it.

It's all good Ed. I appreciate the effort, but it's not necessary. Have a great day!

Edit: Found it! On The Guitar Store's FB page. Looks awesome!

Even though it's a Tasmanian wood, the name makes me think of Yosemite Sam...

I've been considering a Halcyon custom build for about a week. I believe that Halcyon is right for me, and I believe that Lutz is the way to go for the top. What I can't decide on is the rest - whether to get an 00 or a 000, and whether to go with 12 or 14 frets, though I guess I could split the difference with a 13-fret 00. Back and sides are confounding me as well. I thought I wanted walnut but now it looks like sassafras or primavera, though I can't find any guitars with either wood to try first.

I'm looking for a sound that sounds like maple meets mahogany. Crisp and clear, dry, quick decay but not too quick. This would be almost exclusively for finger style and probably slide, and it would likely live in open g or open d tuning.

Any thoughts?

Ed is super quick to respond to questions through facebook messenger. I would ask him. Regarding the Sass, when I asked Ed about it, it was 3x the upcharge of primavera.

here's my Rosewood OM #30, I've had it about 8 months and it sounds great. Getting a ton of compliments on it. Here's my thread:

Both the sassafrass and primavera will be more to the mahogany side of things. I liken walnut as being a good middle ground between mahogany and rosewood. Not sure what I'd consider as being between maple and mahogany. I don't get much call for maple...

I very much like the rosewood binding on the rosewood body with just the thin (maple?) strip to set it off. Reminds me of Larrivee's -10 binding for some completely unknown reason.

All kidding aside, that looks really sharp. I really do prefer understated binding to light colored ones.
