Earlier today I ordered one online, and then received the back order notice. I decided top run over to my local GC. They had a special display set up for the sale, so I bought one at the store. The guy at the store cancelled my online order for me.

Your recording sounded awesome, both content and format.

Any tips on how to set up the recorder? Do you just set it on a convenient counter? Do you aim it at the guitar, how close?

I don't play anywhere near as good as you do, but I'd be extremely happy if my sound capture sounded any near as good as yours.

thanks again,
Thanks!

Regarding this recording and the second one I added today (The Weary Kind), I bought some new shoestrings tied them around the recorder and it then made a necklace of sorts out of it, the mics/recorder top are dangling about five inches from my chin. I played the song Beaumont seated in my favorite chair where I always play when I'm at home.

Copied the .wav files to my PC and then used Audacity just to cut out the parts I didn't want (did not use any of Audacity's effects, but if you wanted to add a little reverb you could do some fun post processing things with it and Audacity is free software available for both Mac and Windows).

Kept it lossless format to retain quality, uploaded to soundcloud lossless and let soundcloud compress. That's all.

Look forward to hearing some of your stuff!

Well I called GC online and they wouldn't honor the $10 coupon on the order I placed because it was "backordered" and "not in stock" even after I complained that I didn't know the recorder was backordered until I gave them my credit card. The guy tried to sell me a different recorder and I said nada. So they cancelled it out and the guy said to go back online and re-buy it but select a specific GC store that shows "in stock" and pick up there. So that's what I did. Sigh.

Oh man, I am a little concerned about mine now. I received the order confirmation, but still have not received my ship notice. I will give it another day and then contact Customer Service.

I got the back order email pretty quickly so if you have not gotten one your order is probably ok but I would probably call anyway.

Seems like we kicked their stock! In about 5-7 business days there are going to be all sorts of DR-05 threads.

I ordered one and got the back-order email as well. I just hope I get the item in time to submit the mail in rebate by 5/5/2014.

I'm in too!! I hope the line input takes my mixer level inputs, if it does recording is going to be a LOT easier.

Now I will have precious few excuses to NOT post something on Show and Tell!!!

I was a bit surprised that the Eugene, Oregon, GC had 3 of 'em sitting around... very glad I got one!

Reading the manual, this is quite an impressive little piece of gear... it will do a lot, that's for sure. May take a while to get a handle on the thing, but I'll figure it out!

Does anyone know if you have to order online to get the Tascam rebate coupon? The young man who sold it to me didn't know anything about it... on the GC website, there was a place to download the rebate coupon, but I didn't see anything in the box. Since I bought mine at an actual store, does that mean I'm cut out of the rebate, or can I just print one off the 'net and use that? (I'll have to drop by a friend's house to use their printer...)

Anyway, it looks like a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of sound the recordings have... any other recording tips would be appreciated!
