Don't plug it in. Pickups, no matter the type, don't sound like an acoustic does in the room. Metallic top end, rumbling low end.

The recommendation for acoustic treatment was good. Not everyone wants to take it to that level so at least find a room that sound pleasant (no "zing" in the highs or "boom" in the bass).

I'd pick up a small diaphragm condenser (or a pair) and explore various mic positions.
