Default A recent collaboration of mine...

Hi everyone,

One of my shopmates, Nic Delisle (Island Instrument Manufacture) is primarily an electric builder but every once in a while gets an order for an acoustic. For those of you unfamiliar with Nic's work, he's very much inspired by vintage instruments but doesn't hold back in putting his own unique aesthetic spin on things with lots of modern updates. Since he almost only builds electrics, we've collaborated an a couple of acoustics and just finished up a killer one!

This is what he is calling a Modern Romantic...

One cool thing to note is the lack of a heel! Like I said, he's an electric builder but what isn't obvious is that the neck is also fully adjustable. In this case there is a small access hole for an allen key hidden between the 15th and 16th frets. We thought long and hard designing this and are super happy with how well the adjustment mechanism works and with how discreet it is.

This guitar has a mahogany top (bracing pattern designed and executed by yours truly) with a weathered milk paint finish, sapele back/sides (laminated back with nomex -- more hidden modern touches!), pinless bridge, and A GREAT vintage tone.

Here's a clip of me giving it a spin and doing my best Dave Rawlings impersonation during our weekly shop cleanup/meeting/hangout last Friday night...

This one is sold and headed to Australia but I thought you all might get a kick out of something a bit different! And it's not an acoustic, but I know there are lots of fans of The Tree out there -- up next for Nic is an electric with a top made from The Tree! (sharing a shop with Joel Michaud and his abundant Tree cut-offs has its benefits).

Thanks for looking!

This is SO very cool guys ... love the worn milk paint top and the funky binding ... and that sound really nails that David Rawlings thang!

Thanks everyone! It's fun to mix it up and work on something completely different from what I might normally build especially if the end result inches me ever so slightly closer to sounding like Dave Rawlings!

Pretty awesome Mike! Sometimes it's good to break out from the normal for a bit... great looking and sounding guitar. Hope to see you in Harrisburg!
