I've never precut a string unless it was on a Fender with those vintage split shaft tuner deals.

Sometimes I'll thread it through the post, clip and then back the string out to wind.

What can I say? I'm a reckless risk-taker in life generally so it's no shock that I pre-cut the strings too. As said, less junk spinning around when you're winding. Oh, I also sometimes do crossword puzzles in pen.

You have maybe 8" of extra string "flapping around." It's not going to hit you in the eye unless your face is less than 8" from the headstock.

Default Oh no, the end of the world (strings and things)

@TBman: How do you like the GHS Signature True Med strings?

I tried them about a month ago and absolutely fell in love with them. My dealer offered me a crazy deal on his entire stock (16 sets), I pulled the trigger within a second [emoji1787].

As for precutting strings: I’ve been playing guitar for over 30 years now, and never even heard of this prior to reading this thread.
100% pointless, imho.

Take care, Lars

Precutting is pointless? Or this thread is pointless?

A thread is a thread is a thread. Period!

I like them so far on the Guild, tonight I'll see how the Larrivee is.

I loved them on my D-18 and HD-28V, rich tone and warm-sounding. However, they didn’t seem to last very long in comparison with Martin SPs.

I’m going to try them on my Lowden at the next string-change.

The usual disclaimers apply......IMHO, YMMV etc.

Any Round Core string comes to mind.
