Default Did a gig with NO CLUE what I'd be playing - now over a million views

About a year ago I was asked to play a private event. I was invited via Facebook and asked to call a guy who was coordinating. I had no intention of going, but I gave him a courtesy call. We ended up hitting it off on the phone, and although he had NO CLUE what songs we'd be playing, who would be singing, or at that time who else would be in the band (like me he had been drafted into helping out with the event). Against my better judgement I agreed to show up with my guitar and amp.

Of course there was no rehearsal.

It was a BB Kings in Nashville in the smaller room downstairs. Turned out Johnny Neel (Allman Brothers, Gov't Mule) was on keys, and Tim Gonzalez was on harp (he's one of the best).

So a succession of singers came on stage that night and we had to play their tunes with no charts, no rehearsal, no anything.

Thomas Gabriel (Johnny Cash's grandson) came on stage and asked us if we could do Folsom Prison in the key of E. I hadn't played that song in probably 30+ years, but fortunately it's not a hard one.

A guy there caught it on video. Below is the YouTube vid which has only had 50k views. But the video has had over 1 million views on two FaceBook pages in the last week or so.

Wow! You just never know...

I was playing a modified G&L Legacy Special into an amp a friend made for me. I was also using a couple Strymon pedals and a Zen Drive.

I got a blues jam on tonight. We don't have a setlist at all so we just yell out songs and hope everyone knows them. Tonight we'll be doing this. Thanks!!!
Sounded great but the best thing is you all looked like you were having fun!!

Yep - as I said there was no rehearsal, charts, or even discussion of who would solo when. And Johnny Neel (playing keys) was born blind so he could not follow any visual queues. But he gave a good one for us to break at the end of his solo.
