Default Angels of Fenway by James Taylor -- Cover and Free Lesson

I learned to play JT's "Angels of Fenway" a couple of years ago for my two grandsons from Massachusetts who are Red Sox fans. They were so very pleased, and I had so much fun with them over this song.

I do love the guitar voicings in this song and it certainly tells a good story. I know this song is probably not going to appeal to everyone -- Yankees fans, I do apologize, no offense intended -- and it is sung a little high. But I enjoy this song; I enjoy the memories of the Yankees-Red Sox playoff series in 2004, which was pretty exciting baseball if you like baseball at all.

I did have a heck of a time figuring out how to explain what I was doing with my right hand in the tutorial. I recorded the cover of this song a week ago, then sat down to do the tutorial and gave up after a while until I had a chance to think about how I was going to explain this. This experience did make me wonder how a person who has been playing a long time can intuit how to play this kind of song and not really have to think about the details. But I guess if I were young again and going after a ground ball coming to me at third base, I would know how to do what was needed to throw the runner out at first base without having to analyze every step of the process. So I guess that's what musicians do, too.

I hope you like this. Thanks so much for watching and listening!

- Glenn

First thing. Any JT song should be listened to. Great job on the song and tutorial.
This is certainly one of those niche songs that only certain folks will like.
The Olson is amazing. So punchy and clean as spring water.

Thank you Started!

Very nice of you to comment considering that you are from NYC. Much appreciated!

I grew up in Cleveland as an Indians fan and watched the Indians play the Yankees dozens of times as a kid. The Cleveland Press newspaper give out 7 sets of tickets each season to students who got straight-A grades in school, and I was from a very large family of good students. So we had lots of free baseball tickets -- box seats, often -- every summer to watch the Indians. It was a fun way to grow up.

I got to see a lot of great players, including Mantle and Maris and of course, Yogi Berra.

I'm glad you thought the song was okay.

Glenn,
My first game was at Fenway in 67. Our family moved to DC in 1970 but I’ve been a lifelong Red Sox fan from those early years. Also a big James Taylor fan. Well done.
