interesting idea, but with my luck it would deflate during spraying, and they'd hear me yelling on the next street.

I notice the comments on multiple clear coats, which makes me wonder... do you still do the occasional guitar with clear coat epoxy?

Balloons have been used, but there is that tiny distrust of it pooping when he least expects it.

I've never finished a guitar with epoxy resin. I do use clear two part epoxy to fill the pores of some open grain woods prior to finishing. Finishing a guitar with epoxy would be difficult I'd think and even more difficult to control the film thickness. Although I suppose you could compare some polyester finishes with polyester epoxy. In that case I have sprayed a few guitars with catalyzed polyester though its not my favorite finish to use.

Our customer wanted a decal added to the back of the McTele peg head so we obliged his request. Problem was after we clear coated it the decal's clear backing looked horrible.
We decided to try something else so I sanded the decal off: Then took a scrap piece of Olive wood: And cut his initials out of it: Traced the initials on the peghead: Routed the pockets: Glued the inlay letters in place: Level sanded the inlay flush with the peghead: And the final result ... all in a lightening fast "New York Minute": |

Tim, I have had some issues with the decals, but I use nitro. Just wondering what you think happened? |

I'm not really sure brad. The clear background was barely visible before I clear coated it with catalyzed urethane. It did not lift it but just made the clear show up as seen in the photos. Hind sight and all perhaps I should have clear coated BEFORE I added the decal? That might have made a difference??? I'll try that if there is a next time with a decal? |

I always shoot a barrier or sealer over the epoxy pore fill after 48+ hours of cure time and a light 320 scuff. I've used Shellac, Vinyl Sealer, RW Catalyzed Sealer and Isolante' sealer all with equal success.

interesting. I wouldn't have expected that it would be so easy to go over the top of epoxy.

I think the first guy to apply an epoxy coating on a guitar was Elvis in "Clam Bake!"
