Default Great nylon string CF guitars?

I'm thinking about pressing the button on an Emerald x20 nylon string.
They seem to have the options I like.
Are there any other brands I should look at?

What's the difference between these two styles?
X20 Nylon Artisan Series
X20 Nylon Opus Series

Is there anywhere to buy these guitars?

RainSong has a Parlor 12 fret Nylon. Contact Ted at LA Guitar Sales for everything you need to noow about CF guitars. I know he stocks Rainsong and is First rate in customer service.

BTW both RainSong and LA Guitar Sales are sponsors of the AGF.

If you buy the Emerald, are you getting that very cool slotted headstock?

Hopefully, Evan will chime-in. He has the most experience with CF nylons.

I believe the more expensive Artisan series is all gloss, whereas the Opus series has a gloss top, but the rest has what Emerald calls a crystal ice (textured) finish. There may be other differences...check the Emerald website to determine. My Chimaera 6/12 doubleneck is an Artisan. Those who own the Opus report they quite like the crystal ice finish.

The differences between the Artisan and the Opus are explained on the Emerald website. Pretty much comes down to: all gloss on the Artisan, a textured back and sides on the Opus; colors and wood veneer options available on the Artisan, black only on the Opus. A pickup is standard on the Artisan, pickup is optional on the Opus. The structure is the same, I do believe. May be a case difference on the X20, but not sure on that.

A visit with Sean at Emerald will get you for-sure answers, but it is Sunday and they are closed, and I am a helpful kinda guy. Keep in mind the time difference.

You buy them direct from Emerald - they ship from Ireland to anywhere in the world. Not sure how it happened - pretty sure it was a fortunate timing fluke, but I received my X7 in 4 days, Ireland to south Texas.

Hope that helps.

I do not think you can go wrong with any of contemporary CF nylon strung guitars. I don't think any of them is perfect, that is yet to come. But they all have a voice, surprisingly powerful and nicely toned.

The various CF nylon string guitars are a varied lot; different shapes, different tones, different colorations, and so forth. It comes down to which one pleases you the most or which one best fits your budget for exploration.

Emerald offers the greatest customization. Rainsong offers what I believe to be the most common production model. Blackbird offers a unique looking instrument that travels and sounds very much like a classical nylon string guitar. There is a new nylon coming from Journey. Lots of choices.

Why is there disparity in the prices on Emerald's website
and their eBay/Reverb sales?

Hi We Walk In Song,

Thank you very much for your interest in our X20 Nylon which was added to our standard range in January and is available to purchase from us directly.

The very knowledgeable and kind AGF members have already filled you in quite a bite on the differences between Opus and Artisan, thank you guys!

The X20 Nylon Opus is available in black only and does not include a pick-up, but this is available as an upgrade. It features Schertler tuners and has a full gloss finish on the top and a satin ‘Crystal Ice’ finish on the back and sides of the instrument.

The X20 Nylon Artisan is built to order and generally has a four-month lead time. The Artisan is available in black, amber, red, green and blue, has full gloss finish on all surfaces, Schertler tuners and comes with a pick-up and custom Hiscox Lite Flite hard case.

Having the Opus series allows us to keep various models in stock to make them available immediately or on a much shorter lead time than an Artisan.

There shouldn't be a disparity between the US prices. We double-checked for you and couldn't see any. Maybe you'd like to contact us directly via email on [email protected] and we can have chat. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Best Wishes,

Sean @ Emerald Guitars

Hey Tom,

We are delighted you like Alistair's hand-carved slotted headstock. It is actually now standard on the X20 Nylon, while some customers have also ordered it for custom steel strings.

Best Wishes

Sean
