Default D-28 replacement nut

I'd like to replace the nut on my B vintage d, which is a d-28 homage.
I'd like to keep it bone and maybe even something exotic (mastodon?).

I'd preferred to buy a nut that's pre-slotted as long as it well crafted. Stew-mac has bone but on principle I cant pay 10$ shipping. May not be logical to be cheap for and quality instrument.

Any ideas appreciated.

The original owner cut the slots down and I believe they are too low. The guitar can have a buzz at times and I think its correlated to dry weather conditions.

Once I have the replacement nut I will experiment with super glue and bone nut dust.

I have no idea what a "B vintage d" might be , nor do I have any idea what a "d-28 homage" might be.

However, if the existing nut on your guitar is in fact bone, and if you are happy with the idea of experimenting with bone dust and superglue, why would you want to buy a replacement nut ?

Just experiment with the existing nut IMO.

From the OP's sig, believe it would be a Bourgeois Vintage D.

Yes, I should have written out Bourgeois Vintage D which is the same design specs as a D-28.

"Homage" comes from my watch collecting days. A watch that is copy based on the respect and reverence of a classic unobtainable watch and wanting to make a copy...as in paying homage.

I thought it is a good way to describe boutique builders like Fairbanks making reproductions of old Gibson classics.

Gotcha. B means "Bourgeois" ...

I'll remember that in future.

EDIT : Sorry, we crossposted ... no hard feelings !

Is there any downside to using superglue and dust to raise a nut as a long term solution? I cant imagine it being as strong as whole bone and suspect it would wear out quickly.

Maybe its not completely logical but my thinking is to experiment with super glue and the action before swapping to the new permanent one.

What’s your time worth to experiment, $10 shipping is really nothing when compared to paying someone an hrs labour to fit a bone nut

There is nothing wrong with shimming a nut either. I have mahogany edge stripping for that very purpose.

The OP's dilemma is like the old adage "pick two and the third won't be" -- fast, inexpensive and good.
