Default RIP Vangelis

He did a lot of great work with Jon Anderson of Yes back in the day.

Probably best known for the theme song from Chariots of Fire...

I have been a big fan of his work buying my first LP of his way back in the 70s. I was just listening to his Oceanic album just a few days ago. I would not hesitate to label him a musical genius. Sad news!

He was an incredibly influential composer. RIP, Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou.

Our musical careers converged a tiny bit around an instrument: His intro into synthesizers and the first keyboard synth I owned, was Korg's first synthesizer, the MiniKorg 700, which was also favored by Kitaro and used on his Silk Road album.

Vangelis began using this synth in the '70s. I traded a guitar speaker cab for mine back in 1982. I'm sure his is long gone, but Kitaro and I still have ours. I keep it at the studio for whenever I need a simple synth sound. Korg have just brought it back.

Anyway, rest in peace, Vangelis Papathanassíou.

Bob
