"Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story". Great satire and parody of the music industry.

Several good ones have been mentioned, mostly about guitars and rock bands.

One that I found absolutely mesmerizing was "Whiplash" - a story about an aspiring jazz drummer studying under a psychopathic teacher played by the Farmer's Insurance guy.

I'll agree with most every one already mentioned. Before I read the thread these came to mind first for me:

Inside Llewyn Davis - I recently re-watched this. The Coen Brothers really can hit a spot no other filmmakers seem to aim for. They (or some/all) of their movies aren't for everyone, but their movies often make effective use of music as this one does. O Brother Where Art Thou has already been mentioned, but A Serious Man uses Jefferson Airplane as a key motif. Both of these movies turn off some watchers as too downbeat (even by those who laugh and like The Big Lebowski) though each are with a plot that is just as full of mankind being fooled by what they don't know.

Inside Dewey Cox - I've got to re-watch this! I laughed so hard at the injokes and spot on parody that my sides hurt. And after I check off that rewatch, I should think about doing "Royal Jelly" from the soundtrack for the Show and Tell Dylan Songs thread here.

Still Crazy - an overlooked film about "getting the band back together" with a priceless portrayal of LSD (that's Lead Singer Disease) by Bill Nighy. Also gets points for introducing me to the Avebury standing stones.

The Blues Brothers! Killer performances from musical legends in a comedy

Country Strong (really like the tune "Chances Are")

Has anyone mentioned The Sound of Music? Wonderful film, if a bit corny at this point.
