Yes I'm very similar. I love to clean and polish my instruments after playing them, turning them in my hands, admiring the wood and workmanship.

That's why mine stay out of their cases on hangars, so I can admire them when I'm not playing them. I'm fortunate to live in a part of the US that doesn't have to worry about low humidity.

But I've gotten to know mine -- they all sound and play differently -- and I'm occasionally amazed at how they were crafted, and wonder where the difference comes from. |

lol. i do that as well all the time with my guitars, but oddly enough prior to starting to play guitar at 10, i played Tuba from 8 to 10 and i would do the same with it and polish it. shiny things are cool too my masterpiece on tuba was the A&W root Bear theme..it was sick!!! ( gotta be old to remember that jingle) great now im gonna be doing it in my head all evening.

There's nothing wrong with admiring a thing of beauty. Ask J.J. Cale.
Just kidding. I do love to take a look now and again and yes, it usually happens once a playing session. Bob

Absolutely. The fine workmanship, the beautiful timbers, they are things of joy even without playing them. I often sit back and take a break from whatever I am doing and just let my eye rove over the guitars.

I absolutely appreciate the fine woods, the craftmanship, the beauty and art of a nice guitar.

But overall, yeah, it's ok to admire things you find beautiful. For me, it's just as often an electric as an acoustic, but that's just me. I've got some pretty nice electrics, while I've yet to buy that singular "work of art" acoustic. |

Yep, I do it but if I go show the guitar to the Better Half, she doesn’t seem to appreciate it as much and I see the thoughts cross her eyes: “C-r-a-z-y......”

Ric, I wish there was a virtual portal into your guitar room! Not just amazing guitars but the background tributes as well.

I do the same thing, only am more apt to admire it when taken from its case and when checking the tuning.

If you have the funds, I might suggest having a professional help you work through the sniffing the sound hole part.
I am often delighted by the tone while playing, but I rarely ever notice any of my instruments as art. It's strange because I've enjoyed woodworking for many decades and drive my wife crazy looking at beautiful boards any where I find them. I do admire beautiful guitar pictures and bookmatched wild grain. But when I play I only think about the music, not the tool. Maybe I'll try to improve on the admire the art part.
