I don't think he ever plays the same thing twice.

I'll just be another adding to the chorus of praise. Would be amazing to be able to express oneself so fluently with the guitar.

Default Great Player

He is a incredible player! I watch a lot of video's from TNAG with him, This Hoffman Concert still haunts me! it was for sale for awhile I wish I had picked it up. Do your self a favor if you have some studio monitors or good headphones to listen on, check it out.

This melody is just awesome, dramatic. great sounding 00-18 too.

Carl is amazing, and has been since a very young age. I don’t think he reads AGF, last time he and I talked he barely had time to look at his personal social media stuff. In addition to the videos you see, he also stays busy doing sessions in Nashville. You'll hear him on the radio everyday, even stuff like Taylor Swift that he records for. This photo is from Winfield in 1998 and that is a 16 year old Carl watching as I play rhythm for Cody Kilby in the banjo contest. Cody was sick that day and would place second in the contest, one day after winning the National Flatpicking championship. Carl placed second and would return to place first in 1999. I didn't compete either year as I had won in 1997, so I just had fun backing up other contestants.

Wow! This is a great contribution from another guitarist I admire - among the no bad notes crowd. Thanks for sharing!

This thread motivated me to start a thread in the show and tell section about us trying to play pieces from Carl's demo videos:

I contributed to Brian's thread and also started a separate thread where I used a Carl Miner theme to compare my Collings OM1A, my Santa Cruz OM/PW, and my Olson SJ.

Carl's demo of the Iris DF essentially sold me on that guitar!

Here are 2 from my collection. The first came in about a year ago. I bought it 30 seconds after the video ended. I just sold the Tippin OMT to make room last month. All are stellar instruments. I traded a 000-12 fret Sitka/Brazilian McAllister for the 000-12 fret cutaway Italian/Cocobolo Sexauer. Carl never got to play the McAlister as it sold within days. At the time, I had 4 rosewood OMs with a Martin OM-28A and 2 German/Brazilian Franklins, so the Tippin just didn’t get played, plus with all this rosewood, I’m a mahogany guy. I wish I could keep them all, but it’s fun for me to bring in new stuff. A shout out to Kim Sherman at TNAG Nashville. She’s fantastic to work with.
