Best Acoustic Guitar with Pickup for $1K
So I have about $1,000 to spend and I am looking to buy a new or used acoustic guitar with pickup. What is the best bang for the buck?
Your advices are greatly appreciated. Cheers! Edit: the size I am looking for is Grand concert Auditorium, or Dreadnought Thank you, Doons for mentioning it. Last edited by Tom_B; 04-30-2021 at 05:54 PM. |

You don’t mention size.... Yamaha LS16R, Aged Spruce over EIR. GA size. Had one, liked it but so did my son. I loaned it to him.... likely never to come back.... just like my Golf Clubs... :-)

A '70s-80s deep-body/non-cut Ovation: IME made to a higher standard than most of today's under-$1K acoustic-electrics (don't forget they were positioned as competition to Martin/Gibson/Guild in their heyday - without the QC issues of the first two), plays like an electric guitar, extremely durable, projects like crazy (great acoustic-lead instruments BTW) - and if you run it through the low-gain input of a conventional American-voiced electric-guitar combo (the way Charlie Kaman intended when he first designed them back in the mid-60's) they're far more "acoustic" sounding than most modern rigs...

These new inspired by Gibson epiphone's a pretty **** good for the money... Under a thousand bucks you get all solid wood guitar that sounds pretty good.. The pickup's not the greatest but if you budgets $1,000 you could always rip it out and throw a decent pickup in it and still be under your budget

For bang for the buck acoustic electric, I'd check if you find a Yamaha or Takamine that you like. Also Breedlove and the various Godin brands.

I think a good choice would be the Yamaha Red Label guitars with the Atmosphele pickup.
In the sub thousand dollar market it's also a good idea to get a guitar with no pickup or one with the Fishman Sonotone and install a K&K or JJB pickup yourself. Removing a Sonotone is easy and installing a K&K/JJB isn't too bad as long as you practice a few times before you get out the glue. |

In that price range, Takamine is hard to beat. Taylor 214ce. The Yamaha AC3R is all solid wood, MIC. Bump up to the MIJ AC5R for a few bucks more, or as suggested the Red Labels

The new Yamaha red label series life the FG3X, everyone seems to be in love with that pickup.
Also the Yamaha A3R or A3M, same quality level and price, different pickup but meant for performance, those guitars play like butter. |

For a rock solid, well made, great sounding and utterly reliable dread (Yamaha describe it as a 'jumbo'-style), I'd go for the Yamaha LL16. Comes in a decent semi-rigid case too.https://www.yamahamusiclondon.com/LL...-LL16ARE-SUPER

Yamaha AC3, or A3. I personally like the rosewood variant, but they also have Mahogany. THe C is a concert size that is incredible. The Dread also sounds killer.

The Yamaha A series or the Yamaha Red label series. Take your pick. Just go pick out the one that suits you.

Put a few hundred more in will ya? Get a Martin D-13E, the one with solid sirius back and sides with solid sitka spruce top. Or you can find a used one for $1000.

Shameless plug for my daily driver: Taylor 214ce-DLX.
Retails for $1400 new but you can likely find a used one in the $1000 range
