Thanks guys, yes, there are some nice little tidbits to come. I think we are getting close to finalizing, Steve has had his sketch pencil out and we have narrowed down the materials for the inlays I think, but that could change.

Here is a nice shot of the dry back once the Celebes Ebony bindings were finished. I think it looks mighty fine. The purfling on the top needs to be finished ie. teflon spacer replaced by cross grained SE Asian Rosewood which was used for the rings of the rosette as well...

Well, don't want to overdo the theme thing, but just some really cool inlay work that Steve will be doing and a subtle theme that will mean something to me, but yet not be so over-the-top that it would prevent resale (in the case of my death that is)...

I know what you mean about the color, it is so rich already, finish should just really, oh I don't know, finish it off I guess....

Here is a final cleaned up picture of the end wedge and binding. Looking at the ABW bridge now with the sapwood, Steve (and I agree) is not so sure it works with the rest of the build...to me, there is nothing for the sapwood to draw from or tie into and Steve said the headstock sapwood has changed so much under finish that it is probably not enough to work with the bridge as is. So one of the advantages of a custom build and a luthier who maintains communications allows us to change our plans midstream and we will likely be going with the Amazon Rosewood Bridge seen in earlier posts.

Thanks

Absolutely Tom, and kudos to Steve and Ryan. While guitars are planned prospectively, a good luthier will always respond to the work as it presents itself on the bench...

Very nice Tom. The pic from that angle really accentuates the deep body. Love it!

Glad you decided to go with the AR bridge--much more cohesive choice IMO.

Really loving this wood--cannot wait to see it under finish!

We are having an ice storm here and the internet has been down and I have not been able to post progress, I will try once again as it seems to be up again.

Steve cut the purfling (cross grained SE Asian rosewood) and maintained all of his fingers.

Installing aforementioned purfling using all ten remaining appendages:

Now this next set of pictures are hard to explain....apparently I have said something wrong to Ryan as he decided to attack my fretboard:

Once the fretboard was cut, Ryan decided to drill a big hole right in the middle of it:

Then if that was not bad enough he cut the danged thing in half:

Then apparently feeling bad for his temper tantrum, he attempts to repair the damage by fashioning a perfect mirrored image of his damage to, I don't know, glue it place hoping I would not see it????

Then thinking this not good enough, he overlays a piece of redwood burl over it???? However, he installed purfling before doing that so to emphasize his own damage with the drill bit....I think he has gone over the deep end...I don't know where Steve was during all of this mayhem, lunch probably....

Ryan had the unenviable task of bringing a sketch into fruition.
So far, his efforts have been stellar. Believe it or not, all this will make sense when completed. Just 27 more steps to go.
