Default Time for Another Music Quiz

What was the Beatles song - Helter Skelter - actually about?

I suppose that's a sarcasm, because Helter-Skelter predated the manson family crimes by several years.

It was actually about a dog - and Helter-Skelter was his name-o.

Funny , but not correct. No, it had nothing to do with Manson, or Dharon Tate or murder.

Bump . . . Come on folks. I thought we were supposed to be music enthusiasts. Hint . . . the subject of the song has a lot more to do with good clean fun than murder.

The lyrics have a reference I believe to the ups and downs of tripping on drugs. I don't recall ever hearing that. I do recall that the song was done in reaction to Paul hearing that the Who were making an album that was much heavier than anything they had been doing so Paul wanted a song that was really heavy done by the Beatles. The original take was some 27 minutes long, hence you here Ringo exclaiming at the end of the song " I got blisters on my fingers ". It was edited down later of coarse.

I'm not saying you are wrong. But, how do we know you are right? Is this documented somewhere, like in the Beatles Anthology or somewhere else? How do you know this?

I thought about the roller coaster thing too. Wondered if it was too obvious. According to the Beatles Book Beatles A-Z, it was Ringo screaming.

Yes ...Paul got the idea for the song after reading an article of the Who's latest song that was supposed to be the loudest ever. He wrote the song about a Helter Skelter which is a carnival ride that has a circular slide ... no kidding.
