Thanks guys! I can’t remember seeing a Claxton build thread either. About time!

I remember the thread about your visit to TNAG quite well. Interesting conversations about stellar makers such as Claxton, Traugott and others.

The malabar is an amazing choice - are you going for a cutaway to accommodate the 12 frets?

Excited to follow along,
Tom

Tom, thanks! The guitar will be without a cutaway. I prefer the looks that way, and rarely play on the higher frets anyway.

Ed reappraised the selected woods, and based on that we decided to switch the chosen maple back to another, which Ed says is a better fit for the guitar. The new back looks like this:

Ed's signature wood mosaic rosette inlaid:

Body assembly:

Interior detail. The kerfed linings are mahogany, the side braces Alaskan yellow cedar.

Box ready for binding:

That’s absolutely gorgeous. That must be the nicest maple in musical history.

Wow. Look at the grain on that top. It's hard to imagine another soundboard that perfect.

I've been away from the Forum for a while. What a fantastic homecoming ! Thanks for sharing this build thread, for there haven't been too many on Claxton builds. This is going to be a spectacular instrument in every way. If it were mine, I'd be experiencing long nights of anticipation-induced insomnia, that's for sure !

Thanks, Juston. I agree, with the possible exception of your maple Circa.

Thanks! We were quite enthusiastic about that particular spruce, too.

Welcome back! And yes, insomnia is a real thing -- a 4-week-old baby doesn't help, nor does the fact that Ed and I live in almost completely opposite time zones. That means Ed's doing his thing in California when I should be sleeping!

Not to blow smoke up your heinie, Juston, but I'm with cbjanne here. Your Circa is simply too beautiful for words.

Just wait until she arrives. You'll be totally sleep-deprived, hooked through the night on "The Claxton Experience". May your wife be forewarned!! (And your boss. And your co-workers.)
