Thin Lizzy help
Trying to play with my son on Boys are Back in Town. He’s playing a les Paul in original chords I think (A B D intro and then into A - C#m7 in first verse....). I need come with an acoustic match since I am singing. He usually finds a capo’d down version of other songs that will work and I can play along. Obviously, I’m not as good as he is so I need some basic chords that will get close. I cannot play bar chords because of hand injury. He is stuck on his version and can play whole song so it’s me that has the problem. Any suggestions ?

Best I can come up with is
Capo 2 Intro: G Am C x4 First verse: G6 Bm .... |

I agree. Capo 2nd fret.
Chord progression becomes: G - A - C - G for intro and chorus. G - Bmin7 - C - Em - Bmin7 - Em - Amin7 - C/E for the verse. For the Bmin7 you can sub a D major chord: Bmin7 = B D F# A D = D F# A For C/E just play a C chord then lift off everything except your index finger. . ETA: The C/E should be C/D - same fingering just wrong name for the chord. . Last edited by FwL; 01-22-2019 at 01:17 PM. Reason: wrong chord |

Bm7 can be played as x-2-0-2-0-2, or even just x-x-0-2-0-2 if you want. That way you get all 4 notes.

C/E should have been C/D with the capo on. . |

Something else that may help you - the guys in Lizzy often didn't both play the same thing when they played rhythm, they would 'share out' the chord.
In other words one of them would play the bottom half of the chord, the other the top half. Its a simply and effective approach, especially when you have two Les Pauls with a thick overdriven tone, but this could work well for you too.
