Mexico has now taken their Group and advanced to the final 16. S. Korea, in my opinion, should have had several more yellow cards or an ejection. Their play was too unnecessarily physical. However the S.K. goal in the 92nd minute was excellent. Germany has a serious need for a win starting in an hour.

Makes not being in the World Cup this time a little more painful, considering how poorly Panama has played. But at the end of the day, it's still the fault of the USMT for boning it.

Went as expected today except that Iran was able to tie Portugal. Russia was crushed.

Iran v Portugal was a shambles. Penalty for handball? Not in a million years.

France has certainly tightened up its game since Australia but if you give anyone, even a floundering Argentina, a direct shot from that area you have a pretty good chance of giving up a goal. Messi, of course, is still a mess. The way these two teams have played during the tournament, I'm still going with France. Any other year Argentina would clean their clock.

Rooting for Belgium as long as they're in it!

France v Argentina

Fantastic game, open, lots of goals. Shame that Argentina couldn't play a system that got Messi into the game, but France were the better team. Stronger and quicker. Mbappe is a future superstar.

I attended a World Cup game in the mid 90's in Pasadena, Ca. One of the teams was Romania. Probably the most boring 3 hrs. I've ever spent, except seeing the myriad of fights break out in the crowd of overly rabid fans. The crowd reminded me of Planet of the Apes. I appreciate how talented the players are, and I played as a youngster in school. Watching golf is more exciting.

I watch soccer from time to time. What always drives me nuts though is stoppage time. Why don't they just stop the clock like every other sport during stoppages? Most of the time (no pun intended), the stoppage time seems completely arbitrarily and it seems like it's a problem that can be easily fixed.

Apparently even before these heroics he had a $200 million 3-yr contract and a shoe deal from Nike—all before age 19. I don’t know, I just read Wikipedia....

Not normally a fan but have watched some matches.

Bit peeved with it all though as there was a smaller than usual crowd at my club last Thursday, and we've had our Monday gig cancelled as the pub wants to as much drinking space as possible.

Because these aren't bloated overweight, out of shape players who require TV timeouts and stoppages to get through a 60-minute game. They are runners who move continuously for 60 minutes, plus halftime and 4-5 minutes of additional time. They need to keep moving. I love the fact that a game with 90 minutes of play time can actually end in less than 2 hours, including halftime.

I abhor having a professional sports game stop for nonsense and advertisements. We don't even do that with youth leagues. I think that if more people had an understanding and appreciation of what it takes to play soccer at professional levels they would watch more. Sub 5-second 40 runners passing and controlling a ball at full sprints for an hour............. incredible.
