Default another blues Baby Let Me Lay It On You (Rev. Gary Davis)

Hi guys,

here's my latest recording. It is a Rev. Gary Davis arrangement of the old blues tune "Baby Let Me Lay It On You": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby,_...ollow_You_Down. Some may recognize it from Bob Dylan's rendition. I'm fingerpicking in the Gary Davis style of thumb and index finger only. Hard to believe he got so much music out of just those 2 fingers! Tough stuff for me though. I'm always subconsciously trying to sneak in that middle finger.

Again the arrangement is from Ernie Hawkins wonderful video "Blues Guitar of Rev Gary Davis": http://www.guitarvideos.com/Products...avis-2-dvd-set

This time the guitar is my Martin Carthy signature Martin 000-18MC which is a mahogany and sitka spruce 000 sized 14 fret. I've told the story before of how I got this guitar new for a "start the car!" deal so I won't bore you. It's a great guitar but a little light on the bass. It's straight braced which might explain that. The 000 is 15 years old now and has aged nicely. It probably has my favorite neck of the bunch, sort of a mod-v but different somehow. The neck finish has smoothed out to gloss from 15 years of constant play. Very comfortable.

So here's the tune:

I hope you like it.

Nice job on that, Doug! Nice to hear your bare fingers and thumb on the strings! That's a fairly complicated little song!

Thanks Glenn! Woody told me that the old blues guys would have referred to me as a "meat playa"! Never could get a "good" sound with fingerpicks or nails but others sure do. I think I'm too set in my ways now to switch anyways. And yeah it is kind of a tough tune. I'm not too happy with my performance of it but whatever.
