Default Martin D-28 - Any Updates on Availability?

Hi all, I gather that the revamped 2017 D-28 will start trickling in to a few dealers later this month. Any idea when these will be more broadly available? I'm wondering if Martin is holding these back a little in order to make sure the old D-28 gets cleared out. I myself am very much looking forward to trying the new version!

The word I heard was mid September Mike. Just what I "heard" though...not carved in stone?

Dunno when they'll start becoming regular fixtures in showrooms. But those of us who pre-ordered them during the summer were told to expect a mid-September delivery...a time that was reconfirmed to me a week or so ago. That first shipment is sold out by at least some dealers - Maury's & Sweetwater are two I know about - so people preordering from them now are being told mid-October.

We're heading to Martin today to pick up several guitars, including some '17D28s. #roadtrip

I'm still intrigued by the new D-28s. I still stand by my decision to go ahead and get the D-18, which I think has definitely become my go to guitar. I'd liked to play one in person and see what I think. My hypothesis is that the scalloped bracing is what I'm loving so much on my D-18, and I've never played an HD28 so I don't really know how the scalloped bracing sounds with rosewood.

Scalloped bracing sounds great to my ears whether the guitar be a Mahogany back/sides D-18 or Rosewood back/sides D-28.

That said, I almost always prefer the fundamental more organic, woody tone of Mahogany guitar versus Rosewood.

I am intrigued by the new 2017 D-28 and look forward to trying one for myself. D-18's however always make me happy.

I don't believe the new D28 has scalloped bracing. I believe it is the tapered bracing that is shifted forward towards the soundhole.

Oh I know, that's why I mentioned the HD28 and is why I ultimately went with the D18. Scalloped Bracing is important to me.

Yeah, the bracing isn't scalloped, but it is in the forward position. (on the 2017 D-28)

Ohhh. gotcha.

Ya' know... speaking of the 2017 D-28, I suppose a guy could buy one and send it off to Bryan Kimsey and have it scalloped if they really disliked the herringbone binding.

We got our order in early and were told late September, early October. Guessing we will start seeing reviews on the forums soon.
