SoloAmp Placement
I could use some advice on my SoloAmp. I am doing a gig in a very small venue (I mean small). There is a long ledge that runs directly behind the area I perform. I have been putting the SoloAmp on the stand, but it's tight! I was thinking of laying it on the ledge, horizontal. The ledge is wide and long enough to accomodate the amp. Has anyone else tried this? How does it sound?
Thanks for the help -

I have noticed that the stand-tube & recess get pretty warm, and I'm not so sure that Fishman doesn't use the Stand as a heatsink for the amp section.
I have layed it on it's side in a small studio, but was running low power, basically using the output to the studio board. Still got fairly warm, but no harm. I would question cranking it up, without the stand for any duration. Hope this helps, and someone may correct me if I'm nutz about this.

I haven't tried it, but my guess is that the sound would be less than ideal. The idea of a line array is to have wide horizontal dispersion of the sound while minimizing reflections from the floor and ceiling. By turning it 90 degrees, the wide dispersion would now be aimed at the floor and ceiling, which may sound muddy and/or lead to additional feedback. All theoretical, but something to think about.
Plus, I'd be worried about it falling off the ledge.

Fishman's site recommends it to be on it's stand, behind you facing your audience with tweeter at ear level. I don't think it was meant to be horizontal however since you own one, I'd just try it out. It might work just fine.

Amplifiers often need to be orientated properly to allow for heat dispersion. The Fishman Solamp has a power amp which might not dissipate heat as well if the unit is laid on its side. That's just a speculation, but you might want to talk to a Fishman tech first.

Just got off the phone in Tech Support at Fishman and asked a whole bunch of questions. I forgot about this topic but the guy was great and very happy and friendly to answer anything. Give them a call.

Great to know about customer service and Frank. I made the jump from my beloved BOSE to the SA in July and have had no problems and love the SA, just have not had to make the call. Thanks.
