Default Adding Pick ups

Was thinking of adding a pick up to an acoustic guitar. How much is the tone affected? Would be great to here a before and after or something like that. Also, what alternatives are there to adding a pickup for gigs?

if your gig's just a solo event, micing your guitar would be a good choice, that's if you don't move around too much either, or get a DPA mic, then u'll have a mic and be mobile

There're very unobtrusive pickups like the K&K PWM.. personally i don't like anything under the saddle, doesn't sound natural enough to me.
a SBT would be a good bet..
