Preferred sandpaper for between coats sanding
What sandpaper brand do you like best for sanding between coats?
I’ve usually bought whatever brand I found on the shelf and not unexpectedly, the results have been hit and miss. Is there a paper people like that doesn’t load up while leaving a nice consistent scratch pattern for the next coat? I’d also be curious to know what grit folks are using between coats. |

That depends on what type of finish is being used. I use nitro and sand with 400 grit 3M gold. And most coats I don’t sand at all between, just the first one or two. And I always sand dry. I level sand before buff with 800 grit 3M gold.

I nearly always use "Mirka Abranet" which is no paper but a kind of net. The dust can be sucked out from the machines and by manual sanding a light knock does the job.

Depending on which coat, I use different things. Early coats are deglossed with Norton SoftTouch 320/400, later coats with SoftTouch 800/1000. Final coats with wet 2000 and a hard block.
I cannot imagine going from 800 to the buffer, that’s a lot to ask from the buffer. |
