What else would a reputable builder do? Neither party is to blame. The builder gets paid by insurance for the first guitar and again for the second guitar.

I wasn't thinking about insurance, that's a good point. I don't quite see what you mean about the luthier getting paid for the second guitar, but that's OK.

I would assume that was intended to mean that the builder gets reimbursed by insurance for the first (destroyed) guitar and then gets paid by the customer for the second guitar once it is received and approved; as would have been the case with the first guitar, had it been received and approved.
Also am assuming that the builder's insurance goes after the shipper for recompense? |

I’m sure Michael Greenfield has guitar insurance (Heritage or similar), so presume he was paid by insurance for the destroyed guitar. Then he gets paid by our OP to build the replacement guitar. Either way, he gets paid for the two guitars he built. I’m sure neither party likes being in this position, of course.

The guitar is home with me now, after a fun little weekend in Montreal with my wife. Hand delivered by Michael at the Woodshed. What a day, one we won't soon forget.
So now this thread has run its course and a new one is in order. Stay tuned, NGD thread coming soon! Little teaser...this was definitely worth the wait.

No, that would be great. Looks like this was a replacement guitar that Michael built.

I'm afraid not. That guitar, Greenfield #325, was indeed destroyed in shipping. This instrument with me now is its replacement.
