Default Ditto X2 Looper Quirks

I recently put a Ditto X2 on my board and have used it 3 or 4 times now
at shows. I am a newbie to looping. I have found that when I hit the
left button to start recording, many times the light just turns green
and does not enter the record mode. It seems that I must hit the button
with a certain touch to get it into 'record mode'. I have tried using
Barefoot Buttons, plastic buttons, and just the buttons with no cover.
The inconsistency seems to happen in all cases. Do others experience
this quirk? Is there a trick I need to know other than just practicing?

Thanks.

The Ditto loopers are neat but after owning both the ditto and ditto x2, I can safely say that I would not trust them in a live setting. There are many times where the record, stop and erase functions just don't work. In fact, my original ditto stopped working properly after a month. I think you can try a hard reset but I don't fully remember how to do this.

On a side note, MXR just released their own version. If it's good, I might get it and ditch my ditto x2.

Ditto Loopers are great when they work but they are unreliable. Lots of documented problems.

Thanks Petty & Tele......it sounds like it is not all me. I will check out
the MXR and the EHX720 that was mentioned in another looping thread.I also will look into the hard reset for the X2, but it seems that I should probably
move on. once again thanks.

I love the Ditto X2. Did you plug it into your computer and update it’s firmware to the latest version?

I just finished doing a reset/firmware update. Thanks to all for the reminder.
I will test out the x2 later today and see if the problem is resolved.

I had a 'mis-fire' on mine once or twice, but blamed it on user error.

I tried 2-3 pedals from TC Electronics before I realized that I just can't rely on their switches to work reliably. The world is full of good pedals, no reason to keep pumping money at these guys.

I have an X2 that I used for a couple of years, it developed problems I upgraded the software to latest revision and it worked for a couple of weeks. I forget at this point the exact symptoms but it definitely quit working. I bought the X$ because I liked the extra features, it did not last as long and it developed issues also.
I'll make anyone that thinks they can fix them a "package deal"

The Boss RC-3 is very reliable and I had the Ditto with a switch fail, and also the X2. Get the RC-3 and ext footswitch and you are good to go.

I have heard goo things about it. good choice?

Love my EHX 720. Easy to use, and I haven't encountered any reliability issues (knock wood)

I will admit to my share of user errors.
I am not going to blame the Ditto on my foot hitting both the play
button on the x2 and the tuner button on my preamp next to it at
the same time. :-)

It took me a while to get to the point where I could get repeatable
quirks like the ones mentioned in the first post.

btw, an EHX-720 is on order.

I have owned a Boss RC-1 and now own a EHX-720, which I absolutely love.

I don't know about the Ditto X2 but both the RC-1 and the EHX-720 can be programmed to change the order of what happens when the loop play switch is pressed.

Basically the loop switch is pressed the first time to begin recording and the second press can be altered to respond by going into overdub mode or playback mode. What happens with the RC-1 and the EHX-720 is also dependant upon if the memory slot is clear or has any material recorded on it.

Do make sure the Ditto X2 is programmed for the correct sequence before calling it dead. The loop button sequence is usually modified by holding a particular button on when the unit is powered up.

Part of what I love about the EHX products is they are known to have very robust foot switches. I believe I read that some of the less robust brands use switches that solder directly onto the circuit board, so the copper foil traces are subject to flexing and breaking from being foot tapped.
