Roots are in classical and some fingerstyle from the 1960's. Now it's a mix of styles - mostly self composed modern
contemporary fingerstyle, classical, ragtime, blues. Composing and recording interests keep me going with guitar.

I play in a duo w/my wife.

We play multiple genres: Americana, Bluegrass, old-time, classic rock, classic rock/pop with a BG twist (we play a couple of Prince songs in Bluegrass), and blues.

I have been playing guitar (seriously) for about 3 years. Harmonica for 20.

Fingerpicked country blues, ragtime and gospel. Been playing for 30 years, very seriously for the past 13. Click on my soundcloud link below if you want to hear what I sound like. I'm nothing great but I have fun.

I'm just getting back into playing AGAIN for the millionth time over a 50 year span. This time around I'm fingerpicking blues, travis and a little classical. I'll probably start doing some of my own composing again a few months down the road when my skill set gets back up to speed.

Mostly John Prine tunes or Prine like music. I consider myself a hack of folky / Americana type music.

I'm mid 50s, been playing about 5 or 6 years. My only ambition upon picking up guitar was to be able to strum my way through some simple songs. I've got that going at a modestly competent couch player level (advanced beginner? beginning intermediate?), and am gradually picking up things like bass runs, alternate chord forms, the occasional little riff, etc. Along the way I discovered that I enjoy singing, and have a fair to middlin' voice.

Material-wise, it's all about the song. Mostly stuff that falls into the amorphous "Americana" category, some classic rock, some classic country, some motown/brill building/pop, really whatever strikes me as "I like that song and can pull it off on an acoustic guitar at a modest skill level."

I play at home, play with a large organized jam group, play in pickup/impromptu jams, and play weekly with a "not exactly a band" comprising 2 or 3 guitars, fiddle, and 1 or 2 mandos. We mostly play at one of our homes, occasionally busk, sometimes play in a low-key way (i.e., not booked as the official entertainment, no sound system, fine if people pay attention and fine if they don't, pretty much like busking) at a low-key brewpub, and have had one actual gig. The gig was fun, but lots of work, and I really prefer just playing for fun.

Great thread (although, I'm ok with reading about the technical/gearhead stuff, too. Threads aren't mutually exclusive.) It's interesting to find out more about the musical side of this community.

I play my own music which is a mixture of stuff that sounds classical. Think Chopin etudes meets pop rock.

If you've got room for a kazoo, I want in.

Played folk and rock-n-roll from the 70s through the late 80s then my hands gave out and I couldn't do Chuck Berry double stops or barre chords any more. Quit playing guitar for about 10 years.

Went to Hawai`i for the first time in '99 and heard slack key. I was drawn to that sound in a way I can't explain, and set out to try to make that sound myself. I was thrilled to discover that the altered tunings and other details of the style made it possible for me to play music again, and that's all I've played since then.

I try and write original music in a few genres.

- acoustic singer songwriter originals, more modern (not traditional sounding)

- alternative electric rock originals

- avant garde music for modern dance, I'm part of a group who compose and record/perform to accompany modern dance ensembles

I've been playing since age 16... now 51. I'm afraid to do the math.

Oh... and sometimes... I primevibe - I suppose it depends on how I'm feeling.

It's been 4 years since the last song was played.
