Default QSC CP8 or Yamaha DBR10?

How does the QSC CP8 compare with the Yamaha DBR10? Price is very similar, both great warranties, both light weight. I am very familiar with the super clean high end of the QSC. Bass/mids not its strength. I have never heard the Yamaha.

Please take this as purely anecdotal.
I ab'd qsc k10.2 against the dbr10
And prefered the k10.2. And i prefer the
Cp8 to the k10.2..jmho

I was bringing my own monitors (QSC 8.2’s) to a gig with existing PA, because I’ve never had EQ problems with them. They’ve always sounded great.
I bought a CP8 just to lighten the load for times I only need one monitor. Sounds fine.
I showed up to the same gig without either QSC one day and the Yamaha DBR10 was set up for us. Didn’t seems as “techie” as the QSC (it’s a **** monitor, right?), turned it up and was floored. A different warmth was very apparent. So, personally, I love ‘em. I’m still happy with the QSCs. They’re not going anywhere, but the Yamahas were no slouch.

I use a pair of DBR10s over top DXS12 subs for DJing weddings or for my large band at large outdoor events. They get the job done. I also use a single DBR10 flown high and behind with a small mixer at a non profit event to cover sound for 50+ people who sit up to 250 feet away.

I had both for a while. I ended up keeping the CP8 as it was a bit more compact, lighter, with stronger bass response. The top side handle on the DB10 is not great and the knobs protrude enough that you need to pay attention when packing for transport.

I purchased a DBR10 a while back, and liked it enough to replace my Bose L1C.
In fact I liked it enough to splurge for the QSC K8.2. The DBR10 had a warmer
character and never disappointed soundwise. The only knock against the
DBR10 for me was the awkward handle. It was a pita to transport &
handle.

imho, the cp8 seems overpriced with its strength being small and lightweight,
but I have not heard it much except at store demos where I bought the K8.2.
Surely there are better values out there if you don't mind some extra weight.
All that being said, i would still lean toward the cp8 over the DBR10.

Specs say 129dB for the Yamaha? Is that number true? 124 dB for QSC, I would think a 5dB difference would be noticeable. Playing outdoors so need all the volume I can get without giving up sound quality.

just my .02 but once you're above 120dB not much is noticeable. I can't imagine a context in which you're supplying the PA that would require this high a SPL. I'd focus on sound quality, value, etc. at the more likely lower volume you're going to use the gear with. YMMV

Those specs are generally only good for comparing products from the same manufacturer. There are too many variables. I use a single CP8 on a pole for outdoors gigs covering large farmers markets and wineries with no problems. I used a DBR10 prior in the same manner. They both do the job. The CP8 is easier to transport and reproduces electric bass guitar a little better.

jonfields45 I know you have successfully used the little Beaudens Power supply with the CP8. Is the Yamaha DBR10 the same type of easy load?
I tried the Beaudens with a 480watt Bose Sub1 subwoofer and the Beaudens immediately shut down on start up.

I never tried it, but there are lots of higher power than that Beaudens, battery power supplies on the market these days. That Bose must have quite a turn-on power transient.
