What strings should I put on next for my Lowden 0-32?
Been using D'addario Pbs. I keep the guitar in DADGAD tuning. Curious to know what other strings you might recommend and why. The guitar is spruce/EIR.
Are there certain strings or brands that lend themselves to alternate tuning? |

I've always preferred Elixir Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze for Dadgad on my Lowden. Or if you don't care for coated Newtone Masterclass Phosphor Bronze are good.

Newtone Masterclass. Made in UK. I have loved them on mine. Very full, rich tone and feel slightly lower tension. Not always ideal on day 1, a bit bright but once they settle they are among my faves along with Pearse PBs.
Have to order from GuitarGal or direct. I have done both with no prob. hans

How do you the newtones compared to something like DR sunbeams?

1. Wyres Pierre Bensusan DADGAD strings. 13-56 coated PB.
2. John Pearse New Mediums, 13-55 uncoated pb. The Wyres have lived on my Lowdens (since sold) and now my McIlroy since day 1. they are pricey and hard to find (My last sets were ordered from Canada and took weeks because of the pandemic). Everly's used to carry them. |

I have GHS True Medium PBs on my F-23 (my DADGAD guitar). Loud and warm, they sound and feel great.

If you keep the guitar in DADGAD then perhaps you should try a Lowden branded DADGAD set. Personally I like Newtone masterclass PB's.

I have been using Lowden strings and really like them on my two Wingert rosewood guitars. You might try them. They last a good long time and have a nice, clear, warm tone.

Just went to the website and didn’t realize they were $25 a pop. A little bit too rich for my blood.

Are those round core strings? Do you have to tune them before you cut?

They are round wound but not round core so you don’t have to tune them before you cut in my experience. And just as an aside, even though the Lowden strings are pricey, they lasted me 6 months. But, I know that not everyone’s skin chemistry is the same. Good luck in finding the right strings for your guitar. Best, Jayne |

Thanks! I think I'll try the GHS True Medium PBs first. If those don't do it for me, I'll go with the Newtones next.

I used custom Mangan strings, which were good but didn't last nearly as long as Elixirs. I often wish Elixir made a DADGAD set.

You may want to have a try of lowden strings?
