Default Big Leg Blues

This is one of John Hurt’s tunes that is not as widely known as some others. It was recorded in 1928. You can find it on YouTube. I have not been able to find any recordings of it from his rediscovery period. The lyrics are kind of dated, I felt I had to leave out one verse. To hear some more recent versions search for Peter Keane’s YouTube, or the album from Lost Jim Olschmidt with Stefan Grossman. Those guys are all great.

Nice job on this Bob!

You are building quite a repertoire of these old blues songs! Good for you!

Another great blues song rendition. Great to bring these old gems to light.

Thanks Glenn! My year with John Hurt is just about over. It’s been a lot of fun and good for my development, I think. Appreciate your support!

Thanks, Joe. I’ve always loved old music. Used to watch Lawrence Welk with my grandparents and then try to school them on rock, no sale! I did get them into Glenn Campbell, though

That was very nice Bob, I love Hurt's syncopated blues style and you pulled it off well.

Thanks very much, Andy! I love Hurt, and learning his style has been good for me as someone still pretty new at finger picking.

Thanks so much, Sal. If I had your pipes I wouldn't be messing around with these 90 year old tunes

Thanks, Basil. I don't think he played it much in the 60's (can't find a recording from that period), which may explain why it is lesser known than many of his others.

Thankfully, I've gotten used to the rice krispies on the 1928 recording, I hardly hear the noise anymore
