Default Painful (but good for you) fret hand exercises-no pain no gain!

Ok here's mine to start off:

You start on 1st fret, barre across the neck with the index finger and hold a barre for the entire exercise - play each note starting with the 6th string using the fingering 2,3,4. (2nd fret, 3rd fret, 4th fret, then go to the fifth string and repeat, etc, etc.)

EADGbe
barre.. 1st fret
222222
333333
444444

Then do it in reverse starting with the pinky on the 1st string and work your way back to the 6th string. When your done move the barre to the second fret, do the routine again, barre the third, etc.

Sometimes I'll start at the 7th fret and work my way down to the first. This is a little easier for me for some reason, but by the time I get down to the 1st fret my left hand is cramping up pretty well.

It's easier starting from the seventh fret, because you don't have to stretch as far.

If you continue until the onset of pain, you're going too long at a time.

Yes, be careful. Do it until you feel tired, not in pain...

Remember Robert Schumann? He invented a weighted device to excercise and strengthen his fingers for piano playing... he ruined (injured) his hands and could no longer perform....and he ended up in an insane asylum.

We don't want to visit you there, TBman! Do not practice yourself into pain and madness! Ha ha!

Great to hear your mood. That is a sure sign of your recovery. Unbelievable all that you have been through. I bet your lovin' that Taylor 910! Music is a great pain reliever. When I am in pain if I can't play I listen. It has gotten me through some really tough spots both physically and mentally...

Well ok, I exaggerated. Not pain, just cramped up, LOL. Thanks for the concern everyone. Glad to see your better BG.

I don't know how painful these are, but I came up with some ways of incorporating open strings into scales. Trying to capture some of the DADGAD magic in standard tuning. I like to warm up with these and try to hold the fretted notes for as long as possible. I usually go G - Em - C - D, but for some reason I didn't punch them in that way.
