Default Reverend LORD

Another thread got me thinking about this.

A few decades ago, while attending the local community college, I took Philosophy 101, Ethics and Bible Literature, all taught by the same Professor.

He was a retired Episcopal Minister, and his last name was ... I’m not making this up ... Lord.

Yes, that’s right, I took Bible Literature from Reverend Lord.

He was a delightful chap with a bit of an British accent and brought a degree of elegance to the topics, yet he was not stuffy.
Many fond hours did I sit in his classes.

Similarly, I once met a State Trooper named Kopp, yes Officer Kopp.
There was a car dealer in town when I was a kid whose first name was Otto.

But I ask you, have you known someone whose name matched their profession?

When I was a kid, we’d drive to a local small farm on Saturday afternoons to buy free range eggs from Mr. Henman.

And, there was a dentist in the practice we went to by the name of Fillingham.

As long as your doctor's last name isn't Quack it's all good!

Alan Heavens... at the University of Edinburgh... observed 90,000 distant galaxies... and concluded that 5 billion years ago the overall star-formation rate began steadily decreasing to the rate we see today.

Aptronyms are fun...one of my favorites (being an entomologist), not on the Wikipedia list, is V.B. Wigglesworth, a turn-of-the-20th-century biologist who studied larval insect physiology and movement.

In my platoon in basic training, there was a guy whose last name was Tuschband (pronounced tooshband). Those here who are veterans, having been through basic training, will understand this poor guy's plight.

I was referred to a dentist to have a root canal. His name...DR. HURT. I kid you not. He lived up to his name. Worst dental experience ever.

I used to live in a flat next to a dentist called Dr. Phang (sadly he pronounced it Pang!)

The first time I was ever done for speeding was by Constable Coshall!

Definition of cosh (Entry 1 of 2)
chiefly British
: a weighted weapon similar to a blackjack

- Merriam-Webster

Pretty much totally British as far as I know (maybe Canadian?)

Yes some Canadians use the word "cosh" as well, i.e. "cosh someone over the head". I am of UK ancestry though so that may have a bearing on my usage of it.

Default I've known a few...

I had a doctor named Dr. Mordick. Unfortunately, he was a hand specialist, not a urologist.

Long ago I worked with a PR spokeswoman named Katherine Heider.
