Is this going to be a 6 string build or 8 strings? I assume that you're building it with 6 strings strings but have you thought about 8?

I have to say, if I'm ever in the position to add another guitar, I think it's got to be a baritone...it would be like playing with a great big wall of subs, sub-woofers that is.

Tom,
someone else was talking to me about the 8 string option. It is doable but I am not sure yet. I guess I could do that anytime until I'm almost done. I'll probably be listing it for sale soon so maybe I should start thinking about it.

Hey Peter, Nice looking top!! I have to admit when you first showed us the spalted maple for the rosette, I didn't think it was going work. Now that you have it in place, I don't think you could have made a better choice. That is going to look stunning under finish. This is a fund thread. Keep up the good work!!

Is this beauty accounted for, or will it be for sale soon?

Default Time to bend the sides!

First I lay out the sides and lightly moist them with distilled water.

Then I wrap the side with some craft paper in order to hold the moisture in the side to be bent. The moisture will keep the side from scorching from the high temperature.

The side is then placed on the bender in between two stainless steel slats and a silicon heating blanket.

The temperature is then brought up over 300 degrees and the sides slowly bent.

Question if I may:

Can the sides be bend by putting them in boiling water or by steaming and then put in the jig to be bent? I am sure I have seen this done in other woodworking, but of course guitar making is different. Just wondered if it could also be done that way.

Thanks.

Tom, yes those were taken at the new shop! I'm not close to being set but I can already do some work there.

I have seen people doing it that way but I think its an overkill. The only reason I use water is to keep the light colored sides from getting scorched. In most woods I don't even do it at all.

Very interesting process Peter!

From similar videos that I saw on Youtube, a lot of oil leaks out as well right?

Default A little more progress

here's the fretboard with the frets all lined up waiting their turn.

the tangs are cutout and then filed clean

They are then placed in the correct fret slot

I lightly hammer them to hold them in place

then I press then in with a fret press

they're all in

After the fret ends are trimmed and beveled I inspect real close

and here's the result.
