Default Cover Me Up - Jason Isbell cover

I had the great fortune to See Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit in concert last summer in Ottawa with my uncle, who's an avid fan. I'd listened to a fair bit of Driveby Truckers back in the day, but somehow or other I just didn't catch the newer stuff (the infinitely better stuff, in my humble opinion).

Threw a couple covers up on the YT this evening.

After much insistence from my aunt, who lives in Nashville and has seen him do his residency at the Ryman a couple times, I finally gave him a listen last year. Not sure what took me so long. I saw him when he swung through Richmond, VA last year and plan on seeing him in Williamsburg this summer. Top rate songwriter and performer.

I've got "If We Were Vampires," "Flagship," and "Elephant" down so far, but have a below average singing voice, so you won't see or hear me sharing on this forum. "Cover Me Up" is on deck and if I can do it as half as good as you, I'll be pretty darn happy. Nice work, Brent!

Austin

Thanks Austin.

Vampires is a tough song - beautiful, but depressing. Amazing piece of writing. “Last of my Kind” is the one I tend to listen to the most, but lately I’m on a kick with “Chaos and Clothes” - just covered that one too, and it has wicked writing.

Well, Brent, I am a huge Jason Isbell fan and I can’t tell you how much I liked what you did with that song. The guitar sounds glorious and the vocal just floored me. Awesome

Sounds really good to me, both vocal and guitar. My only complaint is you didn't show the fretboard.

Thanks for sharing, great song and very nice vocal and guitar playing.

Hoping to attend a Jason Isbell & 400 Unit performance August, 2020 concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater with Lucinda Williams.

Thanks, all.

You should enjoy that show - Isbell puts on an amazing show. I can't say the same for Lucinda based on my 1 experience when she opened for John Prine in Albany, but her performance was made up for by getting to see Doug Pettibone play guitar for her (monstrous).

Great work Brent, you have a killer voice. Try Isbell's version of Pancho and Lefty, it would fit you well.
