John Hartford’s Steam Powered Aeroplane
Revisited this gem recently, and couldn’t resist taking a stab at it.
Hope you enjoy, used my Spire Studio, my Martin 00028, my Furch mandolin, and a recent gift of a 1979 Cf Martin Vega banjo. Peace, Rick Benjamin https://soundcloud.com/rickrn/steam-powered-aero-plane Last edited by Acousticado; 07-12-2020 at 09:19 AM. Reason: Embedded audio for you |

Really nice! I love that tune, although I was mostly exposed to the Newgrass Revival version. I was living in Telluride in the early '80s and heard Newgrass Revival (in the Bela Fleck days) play at the '82 Bluegrass Festival. I'd never heard them before but they were SOOOO good, the highlight of the festival really (even with Levon Helm and Willie Nelson also on the bill - I know, not really bluegrass). I went out and bout the current album at the time, "Commonwealth" and the music from that album always takes me back to that time and place - Telluride in the Summer, almost as nice as Telluride in the Winter...
I actually tried messing around with that song a few days ago, but didn't get far with it. I can't do much with it other than strum it, and it's not really a song built for strumming. And I'm not a singer at all and that's not an easy song to sing well. Your version is really nice, the instruments and the vocal... -Ray
